Even though this was just a town, it was just like S'pore. My first impression of it was 'so urban ar??' Hahaha..but unfortunately, we didn't have time for anything in this town coz we were catching a night train back to Oslo, and it was already 4 in the afternoon! So...too bad...haha... But we were able to take a walk in a park and some of their so-called 'shopping centres'. But truthfully, it was really a disappointment. We also wanted to visit the museum here, but we arrived 1/2 an hour late and it closed!! Was quite a bad day for us, however the night was really another great experience for us and especially me....stay tuned for the next entriy to find out why>>>...lolz

(Urban huh??)

So the next day, we arrived at the Western port city of Bergen. This city was the liveliest of all cities in Norway. We took a taxi from the harbour to the hotel. The hotel was quite lovely, the only bad thing was it was next to the train station!! Arrghhh!! That damn noise!! haha... So anyway, we arrived at the hotel in the evening and we were ll shagged, but my father insisted on seeing the nightlife of this bustling city..haiz..so we followed lor..what to do?? But it turned out to be a wonderful experience. We took the famous Bergen train that goes to the top of the famous Bergen hill( forgot the name lar, sorry! But the pic is on the left) to see the whole of Bergen from the top of the hill. The train which was not actually a train, it looks something like Singapore's LRT, was also servicing the ppl that live on the different segments of the hill. So cool! How I wished I could live there too..wonderful landscape & scenery, refreshing cool breeze etc. It was really heavenly!! After staying at the top for 15 minutes, we came down and went to a restaurant to have authentic Norweigian cuisine that comprises of oysters, fish, shark and local wine!!! Yummmy!!!

(Nightlife of Bergen)

I'm going to fast forward my virtual tour of Norway as I realised that it is just too long to explain thoroughly...so if any of you wanna know somemore which I doubt so, hahaz..feel free to approach me. So lets continue, it was the 3rd and final day I had in Trondheim. I woke up early to get the clean fresh air outside and to also take the opportunity to take a look one last time at the beautiful local cottages and Norsk buildings. In the later part of the
morning, we took a luxury cruise to our next stop, the western port city of Bergen via Molde. This cruise or should we call it the ghost ship as I could count the number of families on board with just both of my hands. We took the cruise instead of the usual means of transport of trains becoz we wanted to see the renowned Norwegian fjords. In case you didn't know, fjords are mountains/ glaciers that are snow capped and of course very beautiful. Attached on the left is a pic of a fjord. This pic is taken from the web during summer that's why the mountain is not capped with snow. The pic below illustrates the features of the cruise. Basically, on board the cruise, there was not really much activities to do other than the usual shopping on board, indoor spa pools etc. I took this chance to catch up on my reading in the spacious lounge room. I mean on board a ship surrounded by seemingly endless streams of water, what can you expect me to do?? It took 2 days to reach the Western port city of Bergen while stopping over midway at Molde for a refuel. In the next entry, I will talk more on Bergen. So until then ciao!

The next day, I kinda felt that the morning started really very slow. I could count how many people were on the streets just by using my two hands. The malls were quiet and it really freaked me out. (The pic right at the bottom is of downtown Trondheim) In the afternoon, we caught a bus from the station to a place somewhere (forgot the name) to visit the Sverres Borg folk museum. This museum was an open air one and it was really cool. In contrasts, there were quite a big crowd in this musuem as compared to the city centre. Funny right?? Anyway, coming back...vintage buildings stood proudly in this culturally & history rich museum. This musuem explained the transformation of houses in Norway, from oldern Norsk cottages to the modern wooden and brick structures. (See pics on the left) They were indeed one of a kind man...So we spent the whole day there...Everything thing there was really an eye-opener even the price tags!! The things there are really expensive because this scandinavian country does not have really many resources other than huge amounts of oil. The people here are filthy rich that's why not many people complain abt the hefty price on products. So anyway, another day had gone by....

I'm back!! Thanks for all your comments on my first 2 entries, hope this 3rd installment will be just as good. As promised, these are pics of the town of Lillehammer. The pic right below was taken in the outdoor folk museum. I will fast forward to the 4th day(also the last day) in Lillehammer. I was still suffering from last night's hangover after going to a typical local Norwegian pub. The smoke was intense as people smoke to keep themselves warm. And so, I was kinda feeling giddy walking all the way to the train station to catch a train to our next stop the Northern cultural city of Trondheim. I enjoyed this city the most although I must make a confession. We stayed in a 6 Star Hotel there complete with indoor pools, spas, salons and fantastic restaurants. It was a pity we only stayed there for 3 days, Probably the hotel rates were too high! Hahahaha....anyway during our stay in Trondheim, we visited the Nidaros Cathedral, a Lutheren Church. I was like shell shocked from head to toe man!! The church was really very beautiful. The tainted glass of the litany of saints were shining very brightly with the help of the sun of course. There were also wall murals surroundding the church. One famous mural that I identified distinctively was "the last supper". Bright yellow and red flowers were planted around the church. The only sad thing that left me disturbed was that even though it was really a beautiful church, no one appreciates it and visits the church, so much so locals suggest it is just an "ancient relic". When we went to the back of the church, there was a playground and in the background, there was actually a river. At that instance, I really thought I was in dreamland. The next day.....Stay tuned guysz...

This is the second part of my jam packed entries on my trip to Norway. I will be attaching some pictures soon. Must upload it to my PC first...So I ended my first entry when we checked in at the hotel. After settling down for a an hour or so, the holiday officially started. We took a nice evening stroll around the town where we will be spending a total of 4 days there. Most of the shops were closed as during winter, night comes very very early...about 5pm or even earlier. People were mostly found congregated in the Town Square, where Norwegians gather to chat about the day's work and other things. We somehow ended up shopping for groceries in the supermarket. I loved the lemonade and the draft that were sold there, especially the draft where it keeps me warm..haha...So that was how a long & tiring day of flights and stuff ended. The next day, we had breakfast at the hotel and then set out for the first full day in Lillehammer. We first took a morning stroll in a park. Forgive me for this sentence that I keep repeating, but the landscape was fabulous!! Never in my life have I seen a much better landscape, snow covered trees, frozen lakes, elegant swans etc. It was beauuutifuuull!! After lunch, we went to the Folk Museum which Norway is famous for. The museum was 10 times better than our museums back home. The museums have both outdoor and indoor sections. The outdoor section featured traditional folk houses and cottages which were simply marvellous. Simple but extraordinary are the words to best describe it. In the evening, we went to a restaurant for dinner. Nothing much there except for their servings which were so damn big. 3 times our portions back home. Stay tuned for the next entry of my series.

My trip to Norway was an adventurous yet enriching experience. We started out in the capital, Oslo. Oslo was the capital, in other words, it should be a city bustling with activity. However, it was just the opposite. A completely dead city!! The International Airport itself was very quiet and not much passenger activities were going on. What made me puzzled was that the Airport was made out of wood!! Anyway, we took the train at the airport to the North-eastern town of Lillehammer. During the train ride, I saw many frozen lakes and really beautiful landscapes all surrounding me. It was truly one experience that I may not see again. When we arrived at the Lillehammer station, the small town was just as dead as Oslo..probably becoz of the chilly winds during winter. The town was filled with hotels, supermarkets, schools, parks and even salons!! We went straight to the hotel to check-in. Stay tuned to find out more from my trip to Norway.

Hi Guyz!! Just came back 2 days ago from the Land of the vikings, Norway!! And guess what, I found a funny prayer called the Beer Drinkers Prayer which is similar to the Lord's Prayer which some of you, Catholics, will know. It goes like this:
Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink,
Thy will be drunk, at home
as it is in the tavern.
Give us this day,
Our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillage,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
Lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers,
For thine is the beer, the bitter
And the lager,
Forever and ever,
Barmen

Hi everyone! Hope you will enjoy reading my posts and I also hope that you will comment on my post with your feedback. Lastly, let me acknowledge the people who have helped me in one way or another to make this blog a successful one. There are too many people on my list, so hope you all don't mind.
